Iceage
More people have asked me about if I was gonna watch Iceage than about any other band. Scratch that. More people have told me I must see Iceage than other band at the festival.
The Men
Their albums are awesome, full of muscular rock, some surprisingly long instrumental passages, and a good bit of variety, too. Should be an exciting set.
Kendrick Lamar
Hip-hop acts always bring it at Pitchfork. (Well, almost. MF Doom was terrible a couple of years ago.) It’s just inherent to the art form that they know how to put on a good show. And if Schoolboy Q’s set was any indication, there are a lot of Black Hippy fans in the park.
Oneohtrix Point Never
Like Nicolas Jaar, OPN is one of those electronic acts that’s unpredictable enough to potentially pull-off a coup.
Beach House
After seeing Beach House at Pitchfork in 2010, I became a big fan. (They also played in 2007, ack when P4k still had a tent. Remember Cansei de Ser Sexy in the tent? But, I digress…) It almost seems like the fine festival folks planned to ease people into some Sunday night relaxation. Between the Field and Beach House, I expect the entire crowd to take just a deep breath and lay down for awhile, maybe read the NY Times Book Review.
The Field
That wasn’t a jab. I love Axel Willner’s minimal microhouse ambient techno more than I can say, and I’m eager to experience its mollifying effects after three glorious days of fighting crowds and photographers. I’m willing to bet he turns up the tempo before it’s over, though, and the blue stage is likely to turn into a macrohouse party. It’ll be a great way to wrap up the weekend.
