\"Wet<\/a>When Wet Leg splashed down in 2021 with the seemingly nonsensical manic pop thrill of \u201cChaise Lounge,\u201d they could have easily afterwards retreated just as quickly back to their Isle of Wight home to never be heard from again. Fortunately, it turned out to be just a drop in the bucket, as evidenced by the band\u2019s self-titled debut full-length, released at the beginning of the following year, which was full of similarly delectable indie pop.<\/p>\n

Still, that didn\u2019t mean that the youngsters would have \u201cthe difficult second album\u201d in them. or necessarily even care to make the attempt. But the band returned this month with Moisturizer<\/i> (Domino Recording Co.), a definitive answer to any lingering questions about Wet Leg\u2019s long-term legitimacy. The record opens with \u201cCPR,\u201d a tainted love song saturated with fuzzy riffs that asks, \u201cIs it love or suicide?\u201d This kind of ill-directed infatuation is a reoccurring topic on the record as singer Rhian Teasdale explores desire from both sides of the equation, one minute positing \u201cYou wanna fuck me, I know most people do,\u201d on \u201cMangetout,\u201d and the next admitting, \u201cEvery night I fuck my pillow, I wish I was fucking you,\u201d on \u201cPillow Talk.\u201d Fortunately, the record is as catchy as it is provocative. \u201cCatch These Fists\u201d stands out in this regard, with refrains like \u201cI don\u2019t want your love, I just want to fight,\u201d paired with the kind of post-punk disco that made \u201cTake Me Out\u201d and \u201cDate with the Night\u201d classics. With Moisturizer<\/i>, Wet Leg proves they\u2019re deserving of not only the attention (wanted or otherwise) but also to be lavished with praise.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
