While Morrissey shows no signs of repentance and a Smiths reunion is probably as likely as the singer having a Big Mac, fans should take heart in the fact that guitarist <a href=\"http:\/\/www.agitreader.com\/reviews\/album_reviews-03.26.13.html#johnny_marr-the_messenger\">Johnny Marr<\/a> has been making some of the best records of his career. (And <a href=\"http:\/\/agitreader.com\/wp2\/johnny-marr-gramercy-theatre-new-york-may-31\/\">live<\/a> he does The Smiths catalog proud with renditions much more in keeping with the band\u2019s aesthetic than the schmaltzy versions Morrissey does onstage.)<\/p>\n<p><i>Fever Dreams Pts. 1\u20134<\/i> (BMG), so named because Marr is also intermittently releasing the songs on four separate EPs in addition to the double-album, is the fourth record he\u2019s released under his own name (or fifth if you count the one he made with The Healers in the early \u201800s). It essentially picks up where 2018\u2019s <i>Call the Comet<\/i> left off, with a swirl of electronic atmospherics, cracking beats, and big guitar hooks on cuts like \u201cSpirit Power and Soul\u201d and \u201cReceiver,\u201d which lead off the album. But like past albums, it\u2019s the moodier moments that really strike a chord. On \u201cAll These Days,\u201d he delves into the lethargy of the past year, matching lines about \u201ctomorrow endlessly,\u201d with ringing minor chords. Time is a reoccurring theme on the album, and \u201cNight and Day\u201d is another standout, with Marr delivering fevered lyrics over a fetching riff. Of course, that\u2019s fitting of the album\u2019s title, and the record has a certain urgency to it, as if Marr needed these songs to shake him out of the stupor that we\u2019ve all been experiencing.
