Standing inside The Music Gym last night, the CDR Showcase took on the feel of a house show. With no room for a stage in the venue, bands were forced to take advantage of the close quarters by getting personal with (and sometimes in the face of) the audience.

Outer Spacist and Necropolis started the night off with an explosion—the perfect opening shots for the event. The Outer Spacist offering culminated with their stellar cover of “Walk On By,” while Necropolis played like a force that could only be stopped when singer Bo Davis’ guitar found its logical resting place hanging from the ceiling planks.

I’ll avoid going on too long, as Kevin will weigh in with his thoughts. Suffice it to say, the Unholy Two and Psychedelic Horseshit sets ended the night in memorable, held-together-by-duct-tape brilliance. Also, I’ll be bold and say it’s time SXSW gives CDR a legitimate venue. Maybe next year . . .
