Friday Picks
Matt Slaybaugh

What is there to say? The Friday night line-up is pretty damn strong.

We’ve got folk-enchantress Sharon Van Etten and then The Tallest Man on Earth easing us into the festival with their folksy ways. Then slam, El-P is gonna take us to a whole other place.

I’ve seen El-P a couple of times before and he always brings a little stage-craft to his stage show, so it’ll be interesting to see if he’s got something special ready for this crowd.

Liars are also an intense live-act, and their albums, including Sisterworld, the latest, are so diverse it’s hard to guess what kind of sounds we’ll here from them.

Around this time, on the “Balance” stage, a line-up of comedians will start pedaling their wares, including Michael Showalter of The State and Wyatt Cenac of The Daily Show

Robyn is the wild card here. She’s an unruly pop-temptress, with a taste for the bizarre. No doubt she’ll put on a show.

I’ve been dying to see Broken Social Scene for years, and that’s a case where it’ll be interesting just to see who actually shows-up. They certainly have the potential to make the festival peak early.

And Modest Mouse will close us out, hopefully sticking to the classics.

The weather’s beautiful, if a bit hot, Should we one hell of a great day.
